Do I need to anchor the pedestal base to the floor?

Floor anchoring is not required. For screens wider than approximately 2.4 m, adding ballast such as concrete or steel plate to the base pan is recommended for additional stability.

What shade colours and tints are available?

The SB-5000 is available in semi-transparent orange and semi-transparent dark green. Both tints filter harmful UV radiation whilst allowing operators to monitor activity through the screen.

Can replacement shades be ordered separately?

Yes. If a shade becomes worn or damaged, contact AKON for a replacement unit. The shade slides onto the existing spring roller with no specialist tools required.

Are the roll-up welding curtains fire retardant?

Yes. The 14 mil PVC shade material has passed independent laboratory testing conforming to European fire safety requirements, providing reliable spark and flash protection.

Can overhead cranes still access the work cell?

Absolutely. When the screens are rolled up, the entire overhead space remains clear for gantry cranes, hoists, and other lifting equipment.

FAQ

Do you need to fill the base with concrete?

Any shade wider than roughly 2.4 m to 3 m benefits from additional ballast in the base pan. Some customers pour concrete, whilst others use steel plate or other heavy objects.

Are the mobile welding shades difficult to move?

Not at all. Simply tilt the unit rearward and roll it into position using the industrial castors fitted to the base. One person can reposition a fully loaded pedestal.

Are the welding shades replaceable?

Yes. If a shade becomes damaged, contact AKON and we will supply a replacement shade along with fitting instructions.

How do the shades attach to the opposing post or wall?

Each shade features an aluminium bar secured by two J-hooks. The spring tension of the shade holds it firmly in place. You can hook onto an adjacent pedestal, a vertical wall, or structural steelwork.

Can we create any layout shape?

One of the key advantages of this portable welding screen system is that virtually any configuration can be achieved. You can form long, straight welding walls or arrange multiple enclosed cells. This gives maximum flexibility for both manual and robotic welding operations.
