OVERVIEW
Hot works welding curtains are an approved curtain material designed for heavy-duty welding operations. These are environments where extreme temperatures, flying sparks, molten splashing, and heavy slag are present — commonly referred to as "Hot Work Welding". Several specialist materials and a wide variety of mounting configurations are available to suit your facility.
The Most Common Hot Work Categories
Hot Work Welding Blankets
Approved welding blankets drape over products or equipment to shield them from heat, slag, and sparks during nearby welding operations.
Hot Work Welding Curtains
Approved hot work welding curtains glide side to side or can be fixed in position, providing a robust barrier against intense heat and sparks generated during heavy welding operations.
Why Use Hot Work Welding Curtains?
What is Approved?
Approved welding materials are typically required for sensitive applications such as oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, and other high-risk environments. Approval criteria can vary between industries and individual projects. Canvas hot work welding curtains carry the highest fire resistance ratings. Please contact our team if you need to satisfy a specific compliance requirement.
Is Vinyl Approved?
Standard vinyl welding curtains used in the vast majority of welding applications are also approved materials. However, hot work canvas welding curtains carry a significantly higher temperature rating and are engineered for the most rigorous conditions. That does not mean vinyl welding curtains are unsuitable for welding — it is more accurate to view them as a different category of welding curtain altogether.
When to Use Hot Work Curtains?
Hot work canvas welding curtain material costs more than standard vinyl welding curtains and is recommended by AKON when your application involves high temperatures, close-range heavy welding, or strict compliance codes that demand the highest rated barrier materials.
