OVERVIEW
Insulated garage door curtains hang directly behind your garage door to create an extra thermal barrier. They reduce heat loss in winter, keep the space cooler in summer, and cut down on draughts that come through the door seals. The curtains slide to one side on a track when you need to open the door, and pull back across when it's closed. They suit garages used as workshops, hobby rooms, gyms, or general storage where temperature control matters.

Advantages of Insulated
An insulated garage door curtain offers several practical benefits for comfort and energy efficiency:
- Energy Efficiency: The insulated panels reduce heat loss in winter and limit heat gain in summer, which lowers the demand on your heating or cooling system.
- Temperature Control: The curtain maintains a more stable temperature inside the garage, making it more comfortable for work, hobbies, or storage of temperature-sensitive items.
- Noise Reduction: The padded construction absorbs sound, which reduces noise from outside and keeps workshop noise from travelling into the house.
- Moisture Control: The thermal barrier helps prevent condensation forming on cold surfaces, protecting stored tools, vehicles, and equipment from damp and mould.
- Easy Installation: The curtains hang from a track mounted in the door jamb. No permanent modifications to the garage are needed, and the curtain slides aside when not in use.
- Privacy: A solid curtain behind the door blocks the view into your garage, adding an extra layer of security and privacy.
Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What are insulated garage door curtains made from?
They are made from reinforced vinyl outer skins with an internal thermal foam core. This combination provides durability and strong insulation to block heat transfer and stabilise temperatures.
How do insulated garage door curtains improve energy efficiency?
They reduce heat loss in winter and limit heat gain in summer by creating a thermal barrier behind the door. This cuts the demand on your heating or cooling system and lowers energy bills.
Are insulated garage door curtains easy to install?
Yes. They hang from a track mounted in the door jamb using basic tools. Most models include all mounting hardware and can be fitted by one person in under an hour.
Do insulated garage door curtains reduce noise?
Yes. The insulating foam and vinyl layers absorb sound, reducing noise from outside and making the garage quieter for workshop use or hobbies.
Do the curtains help prevent condensation?
Yes. The thermal barrier reduces the temperature difference between the garage air and cold surfaces, which helps prevent moisture build-up and protects stored items from damp and mould.
Can I use the curtains with a motorised garage door?
Yes. The curtain hangs on a separate track behind the door. You slide the curtain open before operating the door, and close it again once the door is down.
Can the curtains be used all year round?
Yes. They work in both winter and summer. In cold months they retain heat; in warm months they help keep the garage cooler by blocking radiated heat from the door.
How do I clean insulated garage door curtains?
Wipe them down with a damp cloth and mild detergent. The vinyl surface is easy to clean and resistant to most workshop grime and splashes.
Are insulated garage door curtains fire safe?
Yes. The materials meet commercial fire safety standards, making them safe for use in residential and commercial garages alongside vehicles and workshop equipment.
Where does the curtain track mount?
The track generally mounts inside the door jamb, keeping it clear of the garage door mechanism. If you don't have a roller door, you have more flexibility to mount the track on the wall face or further inside the garage.

Designed For Speed and Flexibility
Operation
The curtain slides from side to side on roller hooks. You can also lift it off the hooks entirely and store it when it's not needed for the season. The track typically mounts inside the door jamb, keeping it clear of the garage door mechanism. Full-height Velcro strips along the side walls are available for a tighter seal. Optional magnet or Velcro splits in the centre give you quick walk-through access without sliding the whole curtain aside. In areas with high winds, Velcro splits are recommended over magnets.
Improves Aesthetics
Premium Accordion Folding Insulated Curtain
For a cleaner, more polished look, choose the accordion-fold insulated curtain. This model uses sealed pockets for the insulating batting, which gives it a more controlled, uniform fold when stacked. The finished appearance is neater and suits garages where aesthetics are important alongside thermal performance.
R-Values To Choose From
Temperature Control R-Values
Two R-Value options are available for our insulated garage door curtains. R-Value measures how well a material resists heat flow: the higher the number, the better the insulation. For a curtain that will stay in place year-round, the higher R-Value offers the best long-term energy savings. For seasonal or short-term use, the standard option keeps costs down while still providing a noticeable thermal improvement.
- R3 – Standard Separation – Retractable and Stationary
- R6 – High Separation – Retractable and Stationary
Control Air Flow
Floor Engagement
Cold air can creep under a curtain that stops just above the floor, reducing the thermal barrier's effectiveness. A floor sweep seals this gap. The 20 cm tall sweep attaches to the bottom of the curtain with Velcro and hangs 15 cm below it, engaging the floor surface. If you move the curtain to a different location with a different floor level, you can swap in a taller or shorter sweep to maintain the seal.
