Are these curtains certified for direct food contact?
Yes. Our Food Safe PVC is fully compliant with European Regulation (EC) 1935/2004 and EU 10/2011. This means the material is chemically stable and will not leach harmful substances into food products, making it safe for direct contact with fresh or unpackaged food.
How is this different from standard PVC?
While standard PVC is safe for general use, Food Safe PVC is 100% Phthalate-Free and non-toxic. It is manufactured specifically to avoid chemical migration and contamination risks. If you are being audited by food safety inspectors (EHO), you should use this specific grade to ensure full compliance.
What environments are these suitable for?
These curtains are essential for:
-
Commercial kitchens and restaurants.
-
Food manufacturing and processing plants.
-
Slaughterhouses and butcheries.
-
Supermarkets and cold storage areas.
-
Refrigerated trucks and delivery vehicles.
Do these curtains help with pest control?
Yes. Installing these strips creates an effective physical barrier against flying insects (flies, wasps, mosquitoes), birds, and dust. This is a critical requirement for food hygiene ratings, preventing contaminants from entering food preparation zones while still allowing staff to pass through easily.
Should I order the strips a little taller than the opening?
Only if you want, the wall mount hardware. With wall mount hardware, order the strips 152mm taller and 152mm wider than the opening you are trying to cover since you are mounting to the face of the opening. Otherwise, order the strips to the exact size of the opening.
Are they easy to clean?
Yes. The smooth surface of the PVC is designed to be wiped down easily. You can clean them with standard food-safe detergents and warm water to maintain hygiene standards. We recommend a regular cleaning schedule to prevent biofilm or grease buildup in high-traffic kitchen areas.
Are the heights of the strips measured from the hole or the top of the strip?
The height is measured from the top of the strip to the bottom of the strip. The holes are located 19.05mm down from the top of the strip.
How do you cut the strips in the field?
You use a utility knife and a straight edge to keep the cut straight.
Are the strips ready to hang and already punched?
Yes, the strips are shipped out and ready to be hung right out of the box.
Do I need to cut the strips myself?
No. When you order a kit, we cut the strips to your specific opening height. However, we usually advise ordering a few centimeters longer than your exact opening height to allow for floor variations; you can easily trim the bottom with a Stanley knife after hanging them for a perfect fit.
What is the difference between "Minimum" and "Maximum" overlap?
Minimum Overlap: Uses fewer strips. The strips overlap slightly (usually ~50mm). This is easier for pedestrians to walk through and costs less. Best for internal partitions.
Maximum Overlap: Uses more strips with a deeper overlap (usually ~100mm). This creates a tighter seal against wind, rain, and cold. We recommend this for external doorways or areas where insulation is the top priority.
What are "Marker Strips"?
These are Red Warning Strips that we can include for the edges of your curtain. They act as a visual safety guide for forklift drivers and pedestrians, clearly marking the edges of the doorway to prevent collisions with the door frame. If you want these, just ask for them.
