I want steel plates. Are the heights of the strips measured from the top of the PVC or the top of the steel plates?
The height is measured from the top of the strip to the bottom of the strip.
How do you cut the strips in the field?
You use a utility knife and a straight edge to keep the cut straight.
What is the difference between "Standard" and "Low Temp" PVC?
Standard PVC is designed for use in ambient temperatures (approximately -15°C to +50°C). It is ideal for internal and external doorways, warehouses, and general partitioning. Polar (Low Temp) PVC is formulated to remain flexible in freezing conditions (down to approx -40°C). You should choose this for cold stores, walk-in freezers, and refrigerated vehicles to prevent the strips from snapping or becoming rigid in the cold.
How do I know which size roll (width and thickness) to buy?
We recommend choosing your roll size based on the type of traffic passing through the doorway:
- 200mm wide x 2mm thick: Best for pedestrian doors and light usage (up to ~3m high).
- 300mm wide x 3mm thick: Ideal for medium traffic, including pallet trucks and occasional forklifts (up to ~5m high).
- 400mm wide x 4mm thick: Heavy-duty grade for large external openings, intense forklift traffic, and heavy lorries (over 5m high).
When should I choose Ribbed PVC over flat PVC?
Ribbed PVC ("bumper strips") features raised ribs that take the impact from forklifts and pallets. This protects the main flat surface of the strip from scratching and clouding over, ensuring your curtain stays clear for longer. It also provides extra durability in high-traffic warehouse environments.
Do you sell PVC suitable for food preparation areas?
Yes. Our Food Grade Safe PVC and Antibacterial (Stop-Bac) rolls are specifically designed for hygiene-critical environments. They are compliant with food safety regulations and are perfect for kitchens, food manufacturing, and cleanrooms.
How does the Anti-Insect PVC work?
Our Anti-Insect (Citronella) PVC is infused with a citronella scent and coloured bright yellow. Insects (such as flies and mosquitoes) are repelled by the scent and have difficulty seeing through the yellow spectrum, making them less likely to fly towards the opening.
Do you have rolls for server rooms or static-sensitive areas?
Yes, we stock Anti-Static PVC rolls. These are essential for data centres and electronic assembly areas where preventing static buildup and discharge is critical for protecting sensitive equipment.
How do I calculate how many rolls I need?
This depends on your doorway width, height, and the overlap you intend to use.
- Quick Rule of Thumb: For a standard doorway using 200mm strips with a partial overlap, you generally need enough length to cover the width of the door plus roughly 50% more to account for the overlap.
- Tip: Always buy slightly more than you need to account for cutting and future replacements.
What hardware do I need to hang the bulk roll?
To create a curtain from a bulk roll, you will need a hanging rail (either Hook-On or Quickmount) and, if using the Hook-On system, a set of stainless steel plates/clamps to rivet onto the top of each cut strip. We sell these rails and plates separately in our "Hardware" section.
Is the PVC fire-retardant?
We offer specific fire-retardant PVC rolls, which are self-extinguishing and designed to meet strict fire safety regulations. Please check the product title to ensure you select the fire-retardant grade if your building insurance or safety protocols require this.
