Common Questions
Which material should I choose?
If you are trying to choose between the 18oz and 12oz vinyl materials, please choose based on your environment. For regular weather conditions, 12 oz. vinyl is a great material at a slightly less expensive price. If you are going to experience heavy weather conditions such as heavy snow, heavy rain, and lots of wind, then please choose the 18 oz. vinyl material.
What is the most common material?
The 18 ounce vinyl is used to make 90% of the covers ALCO offers. Even though both materials are equally strong and look the same, the majority of customers pick the thicker material.
Are they easy to clean?
Yes. Contrary to other polyester covers that resemble canvas, vinyl is a material that is extremely slick and is therefore simple to clean. Canvas will capture and hold mold and stains that are difficult to remove, as opposed to the sleek ALCO Vinyl custom furniture covers.
How strong are the covers?
18 oz vinyl is a very strong and long-lasting material, in fact, it is the same material that is used on the semi trailers to cover their cargo! As you can imagine, the abuse the material can endure on the highway is extreme, and if they didn't hold up, the truckers would not use them. That is why 18 oz vinyl is one of the strongest covers that you can purchase.
My cover will be used indoors. Which material is ideal?
The 600D material is the perfect material for indoors or even outdoors if its mostly in the shade and not in harsh conditions.
Common Questions
Hopper Covers — Frequently Asked Questions
What are AKON hopper covers used for?
They protect stationary and portable hoppers from rain, dust, UV, and debris when not in use, extending equipment life and keeping interiors clean between shifts.
What materials do you offer?
12oz vinyl (medium duty) for standard conditions and 18oz vinyl (heavy duty) for harsh outdoor exposure and frequent storms. Both are waterproof and UV-rated.
How do I measure for a proper fit?
Measure the length, width, and height of the hopper body and any protrusions that the cover must clear. Enter exact inches—AKON adds minimal slack (not on height) for a clean, fitted look.
Can you accommodate unusual hopper shapes or chutes?
Yes. Choose the closest style and describe chutes, flanges, rails, or ladders in the Special Request field. You can also upload a photo or sketch; we’ll tailor the pattern accordingly.
Are the covers waterproof?
Yes. Coated vinyl with welded hems is 100% waterproof and resists rain and snow. For wind-driven rain, add tie-downs to keep edges sealed.
What tie-down options are available?
Common options include grommets with cord, buckled webbing straps, or shock cord. Choose “Tie Downs” in Step 4 and we’ll place hardware to suit your layout.
Can I add an access opening?
Yes. Select a cover split (zippered or flap opening) so operators can access ports without removing the entire cover. Indicate location and size in your notes.
Do you offer color options?
Yes—black, brown, blue, white, tan, red, navy, yellow, olive green, and gray are standard. Request other colors in Special Request if needed.
How durable are the covers?
Both 12oz and 18oz vinyls are industrial-grade. The 18oz is transport-tarp class for maximum abrasion resistance, UV stability, and multi-year service life.
What’s the typical lead time and warranty?
Lead time is usually 10–12 work days after confirmation. Vinyl covers include a 5-year warranty when used as intended.
Are the covers easy to clean?
Yes. The slick vinyl surface wipes clean with mild soap and water. Avoid bleach, harsh solvents, and abrasive pads.
Can the covers be used indoors and outdoors?
Yes. 12oz vinyl is ideal indoors or light outdoor use; 18oz vinyl is recommended for continuous outdoor exposure or high-wind sites.
Will the cover interfere with hopper ventilation?
If ventilation is required, request hem grommets, a shorter skirt, or a flap opening. We’ll configure airflow while maintaining weather protection.
Do you support branding or labeling?
We can add simple text or logos for identification (e.g., “OUT OF SERVICE”). Upload artwork and we’ll send a proof before fabrication.
What if I’m unsure about specs?
Upload photos or a quick sketch and tick the option to be contacted before production. Our team will review measurements and features with you for a perfect fit.
