Curtain Track Style

With the curtain track mount, your insulated panels glide open and closed along a steel track fixed to your structure. This is ideal if you want regular access to the patio without removing the panels each time. The track system uses nylon roller hooks for smooth, quiet operation and supports panels of virtually any width.

Static Mount Style

With the static mount style, the insulated thermal patio enclosure panels are secured directly to your structure. Grommets are positioned every 46 cm, allowing you to choose the fasteners that best suit your installation. At the end of the season, the panels can be easily removed just like with the curtain track system and stored until they're needed again. Windows For Line of Sight

You can choose to add a clear PVC window to your insulated covers, allowing visibility to the outside while letting natural light into your winter patio enclosure. The size and placement of these windows can be customised to suit your needs. Please note that the windows are not insulated, so larger or multiple windows may reduce the overall effectiveness of temperature control.

If you select the curtain track style mount and want a premium, polished appearance, our accordion-fold premium curtains are the ideal choice. These curtains feature sealed pockets that hold the insulating batting, allowing them to fold neatly and evenly. The refined construction not only improves functionality but also gives the thermal outdoor curtain a more attractive, high-end look.

Floor Engagement

If you choose a curtain track style mount, we highly recommend adding a floor sweep. Without one, cold air can slip under a curtain that stops just above the floor, reducing the efficiency of insulated patio panels. A floor sweep seals this gap, controlling airflow between temperature zones.

The sweep attaches to the curtain's bottom edge with Velcro and extends 15 cm below it. You can replace it later or swap it for a longer or shorter sweep if you move your thermal patio enclosure curtains to a location with a different floor height.

You can choose between two R-Value options to suit your needs. R-Value measures how well an insulating material resists heat flow; the higher the R-Value, the better the insulation.

For most patio and porch projects, R3 is the popular choice. It provides solid insulation while being lighter and easier to handle. If you're planning a long-term installation or your site is particularly exposed, you may want to consider R6, which offers greater insulating power for enhanced temperature control.

Outer Layers

The outer layers of our insulated curtains are made of 18 oz vinyl, reinforced with a polyester scrim. It is a waterproof fabric that is easy to wash down should it become dirty. The material will not absorb liquids or stains, so it will look great for many years. 18 oz coated vinyl is rated for outdoor use in temperatures as low as -28°C.

Insulation Core

Between the vinyl layers is a quilted fibreglass batting that provides the thermal resistance. We offer two options:

R3 — suits most UK patio, porch, and gazebo enclosures. Lighter weight and easier to handle.
R6 — best for exposed sites, long-term installations, or particularly cold regions. Greater insulating power.

Colour Options

The outer vinyl is available in a wide range of colours. All colours are the same price. If you need a specific colour to match your property or branding, contact us and we'll confirm availability.

FAQ

How much more expensive are the insulated curtains versus the standard curtains?

Our insulated curtains are about 3x the investment of our non-insulated patio curtains. Customers often ask if they should just purchase a standard curtain to save money. If you are in a particularly cold or exposed area (think Scotland, northern England, or elevated rural sites) then heating an uninsulated space is not really practical in the middle of winter. In those situations the insulated material is going to be your best option. Without insulation, your heater simply won't be able to keep up.

What is R-Value?

The insulation value of a thermal curtain is measured by its R-Value. In simple terms, R-Value is the capacity of a material to resist heat flow. The higher the R-Value, the greater the insulating power. AKON provides R3 and R6 insulated curtains.

Should I choose R3 or R6?

We find R3 is a good fit for most applications. Consider your local climate and how long the curtains will be in place. The longer you need them and the colder your location, the more we'd recommend the higher R6 material for better thermal performance.

When folded up, how much space does it take?

The insulated curtains fold up to about 6 cm per 30 cm of curtain width. So a 3-metre-wide curtain would fold up to approximately 60 cm if you purchased the curtain track style of mounting.
