Common Questions

I can't decide if I should use mass loaded vinyl (MLV) or quilted panels.
Use MLV if your priority is to keep noise from escaping the construction zone and you are not worried about it bouncing back to the job site. Use quilted panels if your goal is to reduce noise within the construction zone for workers or nearby operations. For optimal results, some clients combine both materials: MLV for perimeter fencing and quilted panels near the actual noise sources.

What’s the difference between sound absorption and sound blocking?
Sound absorption reduces the echo and reverberation inside a space by soaking up sound energy (ideal for worker comfort). Sound blocking stops noise from traveling from one area to another (ideal for preventing noise complaints). Quilted panels do both. MLV mainly blocks.

Can I use these panels on a chain link fence?
Yes. Both MLV and quilted panels can be mounted to existing chain link fences using zip ties or hook straps. Many quilted panels come with grommets for easy hanging, and Velcro edges to create a continuous seal. Please note that you need to requesst grommets from AKON on the MLV material if you want us to install them.

How fast can these panels be installed?
Installation is fast and simple. A two-person team can typically install 90 meters of paneling in under an hour, depending on the structure. No heavy equipment or special tools are needed.

Are these sound panels reusable for future jobs?
Yes. Our panels are designed to be durable and portable. They can be rolled up or folded and stored between projects. Reinforced stitching and rugged facings help them withstand repeated use on tough job sites.

Can these panels help us comply with local noise laws?
Yes. Many cities require construction sites to stay below certain dB levels. Our panels are designed to help you meet or exceed these regulations — especially in cities like New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, where portable noise barriers are often mandatory.

Can these panels stand up to weather?
Absolutely. Our quilted panels are made with UV-resistant, waterproof vinyl facings and sewn with outdoor-grade thread. They’re built to withstand rain, wind, and sun for long periods.

Do you rent the panels or just sell them?
At this time, we don't offer rental sevices.

How do the quilted panels cut noise?

Are the panels custom-made?
The industrial soundproofing panels are both standard and custom-made. We use as much material as we can for your project, which is standard and stocked, then for a small fraction of your project, we custom-cut the material to make it a perfect fit. Are the panels fire-rated?

Made from fiberglass or another porous substance, flexible, fabric-faced acoustic remedies called industrial quilted sound panels are used in industrial and commercial settings. These settings are intended to absorb and block sound, lowering echo, reverberation, and general noise levels.

What materials make up these quilted panels?
Fiberglass batting's basic width ranges from 2.5 to 5cm. The facings are made from nonwoven porous scrim, silicone-coated fiberglass, or vinyl-coated fiberglass fabric. For durability and looks, diamond or straight stitch patterns, and for maximum sound shielding, some panels also have mass-loaded vinyl barriers inside per special request.

Can they be rated for high temperatures?
Yes, we can change out the fabric so that it uses a high temperature sound blocking material, which is ideal for machines or processes that produce high heat. Just ask your AKON representative.

How should I keep these panels neat and maintained?
Maintenance is simple by performing frequent dusting or vacuuming, with spot cleaning stains with a light detergent. Steer clear of strong chemicals that might compromise the face material. For particular cleaning advice, you can ask your AKON representative.
