Customer – We’re looking to sublease part of our warehouse space. What options are there to divide it?
AKON – Subleasing a warehouse to divide space between tenants is a common application for our Warehouse Divider Curtains. Unless one tenant is going to be producing excessive noise, dust, or adjusting the climate in contrast to the other tenants then I would use our standard 18 ounce curtain material and hang it from the bottom of the bar Joist. If one side needs to be climate adjusted then you can use our insulated warehouse curtains. These are ideal for areas that need to have low temperatures for chilled or frozen goods. Curtains for dividing tenants is a very economical way to subdivide a warehouse especially if the size of space needed for a particular tenant needs to be adjusted in the future. Unlike rigid walls which cannot be taken down without great expense. Soft walls also known as curtain walls are quick to be installed, removed or reconfigured making them an ideal solution for leasing to tenants in a warehouse space.
Tenant Separation / Security Curtains
Customer – Can a curtain be used for security? Something like a security curtain? AKON – Basically, if you have a curtain and you are wanting to keep people out of a particular area then you can use anchor straps which anchor into the floor. A person could of course un-Velcro the straps and then get himself under the curtain. So you would consider this a security curtain in the terms of containing “wandering” people.
If you have a curtain system where you are trying to keep people out who are intentionally trying to get to the other side there’s not much you’re going to do to be able to stop them. You could attach the curtain to the floor permanently using aluminum angle which anchors into the concrete. You would then attach the curtain using tek screws and washers to pinch the curtain to the aluminum angle. With that method, a person would have to take a knife and cut the curtain open to get through. So while that is more security than the anchor straps, it’s not going to stop someone intending to break into an area. So in summary, a curtain wall is not a 100% solution for keeping out bad elements but rather a tool for keeping out “wandering” individuals.
