Which Material Is Right For Your Application?

• All material is rated for light to medium welding and grinding operations.
• Choose the canvas material for close proximity heavy welding or high heat areas.

WARNING: Tinted transparent vinyl screens provide protection for casual passerby only and are not intended as a substitute for normal eye protection for close or long-term viewing. The user must wear protective eye-wear suitable for the application. Clear transparent vinyl does not reduce harmful UV light from welding operations.

How We Choose The Correct Strip Width

By using the simple chart shown below, you can choose the appropriate
width of strip. For instance, if you have a very tall opening that you are
trying to cover and the strip width is too narrow it will curl at the bottom.
The taller the opening the wider the strip must be.

As an example if you have a 3.6m high opening and it will be located indoors
then ideal strip as shown in the chart below would be a 30cm wide strip.

How We Choose Strip Thickness

When choosing a strip thickness you should consider what will be traveling
through the strips.

• 2mm - Ideal for heavy foot traffic and light industrial traffic
• 3mm - Ideal for moderate to heavy industrial traffic

Things to Consider

• Not all strip widths have all thicknesses available.
• 30cm strips with 100% overlap are not ideal for foot traffic due to the force required to walk through them.

How We Choose The Correct Strip Overlap

We first consider the type and volume of traffic.

• Personnel – Doors for people-only access should utilize small sized strips
  with less overlap. Consider or 20cm material with 33% to 67% overlap.
• Pallet Trucks – This indicates the door will get heavier traffic including
  material pallets, typically accompanied by a person. In this scenario 20cm with
  25% or 50% overlap is the best option.
• Forklift Traffic – Forklift traffic indicates strip doors will face more abuse.
  Consequently, large PVC vinyl strip sizes are the best bet. Also consider the load
  the forklift will carry as the strips will drag over the load. If the load is light, very
  large strips may drag it off the forklift. Consider 30cm material with 50% to 100%
  overlap.

Common Questions

Will the Vinyl hold up to flying sparks?

The 14 mil vinyl material will hold up to hot common flying sparks, as shown in the picture
below. However, keep in mind there are different kinds of sparks. There are sparks from
grinding and welding metal which these curtains work great for. Then there are molten
sparks coming from very close heavy welding. For that type of an application, we would
recommend the canvas material.

What's the difference between clear Vinyl and tinted Vinyl?

The vinyl that we use for clear curtains is the same vinyl use for the welding curtains.
The welding curtains however are thinner at 14 mil thick while the clear curtains we
provide are 20 mil thick. Both of them can be used for welding applications except
the clear material of course will not block any harmful UV light. If that is not a
concern than both materials should work fine.

Can you make any design?

Yes. We have provided thousands of custom welding enclosures of all shapes
and sizes. Many of them were sent to us as a simple hand sketch that was
emailed or faxed. Whatever your design, our team will work with you to
included whatever features you are looking for, from multi-sided custom
welding booths to simple one-sided welding curtain walls.

Can we have multiple colours?

Yes. You can have up to 3 different colors on the free standing welding curtains.
Most customers choose one color for the top and bottom and a tinted
color for the vision panel in the middle. You can also choose the heights
of the different colours. There is no price increase for using different colours.

Can we use a combination of PVC strips entrances with solid curtains?

Yes. In fact, that is the most economical way to supply larger welding enclosures.
You only use welding strip curtain access points where they are needed and use
the less expensive 14mil Vinyl curtains for all other areas. The entire curtain wall
can be installed using the roller track, which allows it to roll side to side as well.
Simply tell us the size and location of the welding strip doors that you need and
they will be part of your kit.

Does OSHA Approve These Curtains?

OSHA does not approve products. They only advise what precautions should
be taken to provide a safe work environment. It is up to the user to
determine what products they need to protect their workers. The OSHA

What curtains can we use for MIG Welding?

All of our standard vinyl welding curtains are okay to use with MIG welding. If you
have heavy close proximity welding, then please use our canvas welding curtain
material.

Are they Approved Hot Work Welding Curtains?

Hot work welding curtains are a type of material that is used for heavy welding
operations. These are applications where there will be high temperatures, sparks,
molten splashing, and heavy slag present. To meet this specification you would
need to choose the canvas shade material.
